Episodes

  • Goodbye

    28/01/2020 Duration: 04min

Hey everyone, I'm sad to announce that we will cease production of Mild Peril podcasts for the foreseeable future. It may come back at some point, but it's unlikely. Thank you all for listening all these years, it's been a lot of fun. This podcast episode explains a bit more as to why we are stopping, but be warned that it was recorded in a closet and the sound quality isn't that great. If you're going to miss us, give Danielle a follow on Instagram and Twitter @hiiamahugenerd for all sorts of dog photos and musings on niche movies. Thanks again, and so long, farewell...

  • Episode 56- Hotel for Dogs

    26/08/2019 Duration: 26min

We're back with a new (silent)co-host, Alberta the dog! To celebrate, we watch the 2009 film 'Hotel for Dogs,' which is somehow our first dog movie?!?! Danielle was a werewolf, Sam loves Wishbone, Alberta and Holly sleep, and we all have a howling good time! Notes- *The Divine Lorraine Hotel was built in 1892, making it Victorian and not Art Deco. *I know you all want a Bertie picture.

  • Episode 55- Zombies!

    16/03/2019 Duration: 35min

Mild Peril is back from the seemingly dead and we're watching the 2018 Disney Channel original movie, 'Zombies!' Danielle courts possible sponsors, Sam only watches cheerleading sequels, and we're very sorry for the delay once again. Please listen to the beginning of the episode to hear what we've been up to and hopefully you can understand why it was hard to record for a while. But we're back on track and ready to get regularly scheduled episodes to you, woo hoo!

  • Episode 54- Casper

    30/10/2018 Duration: 37min

Happy Halloween! We're sorry the podcast vanished mysteriously (OoOoOohhhh) for a few months but Danielle and Sam are back just in time for SPOOKY SEASON! We watched Danielle's personal VHS copy of the 1995 live-action adaptation of 'Casper.' Danielle is believing, Sam doesn't mess with ghosts, and we discover a horrifying plot-hole. Notes- *Sabrina and Archie are in the same universe, but that doesn't include Casper or Wendy. Whoops. *Here is the link to the Crypt Keeper rap. It's dumber than I remember. *Danielle was describing the plot of 'While You Were Sleeping,' not 'Sleepless in Seattle.' Bill Pullman is in both of them and they have 'Sleep' in the title and I saw them both 20 years ago. Give me a break.

  • Episode 53- Sherlock Gnomes

    12/04/2018 Duration: 32min

Yes, we're finally back and got to see the new film 'Sherlock Gnomes' thanks to Sir Elton John himself (not exactly, but we can pretend)! Danielle is the happiest goth, Sam is a sucker for cheesy romantic lines, Holly the dog is a gummy bear, and we're all creeped out by dolls. If you haven't already, check out our previous episode on 'Gnomeo and Juliet' (episode 20). Show Notes- *Turns out there is a movie called 'Gnome Alone,' it's not related to this franchise but is definitely why they didn't make that joke themselves. *The computer game Danielle mentions is 'Sherlock Holmes vs. Arsene Lupin.' Arsene Lupin wasn't originally an official part of the Arthur Conan Doyle books, he was in his own series where the detective taking him on was named Herlock Sholmes. When the copyright on Sherlock Holmes ran out, they made this game so that it could be canon somewhere. Crazy but true.

  • Episode 52- Digimon Tri

    18/10/2017 Duration: 34min

After over a decade of being Digi-dorks, Jess and Danielle are excited to finally watch the English dub of 2015's 'Digimon Tri!' This is technically the first three episodes, but it was released as a movie in Japan, so it counts by our rules. Don't @ us. Jess frequently talks like Patamon, Danielle pretends she's in 'Akira,' and we both still have weird crushes on Matt even though we're adults.

  • Episode 51- Jungle Book

    31/08/2017 Duration: 32min

In what was almost a lost episode, we discuss the 2016 adaptation of 'The Jungle Book,' though the 1967 version gets mentioned a lot as well. Jess doesn't bring up 1D, Sam wants to go live with wolves, and Danielle ponders robotic bears. 'The Jungle Book' is available on Netflix, watch along with us!

  • Episode 50- Encino Man

    22/05/2017 Duration: 36min

Hey buddddddddddies! Our 50th (!) episode is extra special because we recorded it on Danielle's 29th (!!!) birthday! To celebrate, Danielle and Sam watched the 1992 goofball comedy, 'Encino Man.' Yes, after bringing up Brendan Fraser in every other episode, we're finally watching a movie he stars in. Danielle is a unique weasel, Sam is now very pro-Pauly Shore, and we both only care about nugs, grindage, and chillinggggggggg.

  • Episode 49- A Street Cat Named Bob

    03/05/2017 Duration: 32min

Danielle finds the perfect movie for her and Jess to agree on, the 2016 British biopic 'A Street Cat Named Bob.' Danielle is a creeper, Jess fawns over cats, and we both give a mandatory Harry Styles update. Please note that the rating of this movie varies by country, but it ultimately is very family friendly. In the US, it's available on Netflix, we highly recommend you check it out!

  • Episode 48- Archie: To Riverdale and Back Again

    22/03/2017 Duration: 34min

We attempt to watch the 1990 made for TV movie  garbage 'Archie: To Riverdale and Back Again,' but in a Mild Peril first, can't make it through. So this podcast is really just a vehicle for us to discuss the Archie comics, Josie & the Pussycats, and the CW show, 'Riverdale.' Danielle almost died watching 'Interview with a Vampire,' Sam reminds Danielle of their only Betty & Veronica-esque high school love triangle, and we both really love hot emo Jughead way more than we should.

  • Episode 47- Hidden Figures

    24/02/2017 Duration: 23min

We head out to an early matinee of the amazing 2016 Oscar nominated film, 'Hidden Figures!' Danielle is the only person who can bring up Australian hardcore band Parkway Drive in an Oscar special, Jess names her Oscar picks even though 'Hidden Figures' is the only nominee she's seen, and we're both very much obsessed with this wonderful movie and its three leading ladies. If you haven't seen 'Hidden Figures' yet, please do! It has intersectional feminism, space travel, a great soundtrack, and your whole family can watch it! Note: Danielle was correct that no animated movie has ever won the Oscar for Best Picture, but Jess was correct that there have been three total nominated ('Beauty & the Beast,' 'Up,' and 'Toy Story 3').

  • Episode 46- Paddington

    18/02/2017 Duration: 41min

Ten years ago, Danielle met Katie on the way to the UK, so to celebrate, we watched the 2014 movie 'Paddington,' starring the titular iconic British bear. Danielle doesn't understand what's going on in pantos, Katie only eats the creme center of Oreos, and we both have been to almost every London location in this movie. Notes- We get a tiny bit dark when talking about taxidermy towards the end. If you're interested in the podcast episode Danielle mentions, here is the link.

  • Episode 45- Blank Check

    25/01/2017 Duration: 38min

Danielle is back from the UK and joined again by Joe to welcome 2017 the best way we know how: with a creepy, very dated movie from 1994. 'Blank Check' reminds Danielle of turning Microsoft Sam into an MC, Joe revels in the legacy of James Rebhorn, Katy Purry General Organa Stormborn the cat knocks things over, and we both spend most of this episode discussing '90s hunks with white boy names. THOSE SWEET BOYS!

  • Episode 44- Gremlins

    31/10/2016 Duration: 45min

Happy Halloween! We watch a movie that definitely has the highest body count of all the films we've previously watched, the way too creepy 1984 creature feature 'Gremlins.' Danielle's former obsession with Corey Feldman is rekindled, Sam talks Comic Con, and we are both really glad we never saw this when we were kids.

  • Episode 43- Fly Away Home

    20/09/2016 Duration: 36min

Sam and Danielle welcome the beginning of Fall with the 1996 film, 'Fly Away Home.' Danielle was a baby goth, Sam eagerly awaits Fall foods, Anna Paquin shrieks constantly, and we want to adopt a flock of adorable, waddling (Ryan) goslings. This episode ends with an extremely silly song mash-up Danielle created.

  • Episode 42- Kazaam

    05/09/2016 Duration: 51min

Danielle and Joe barely manage to survive the 1996 Shaq-tastic mess 'Kazaam.' Joe is a mascot bee trying to decide his wishes three, Danielle is secretly an excellent rapper whose basketball knowledge is down the crapper and we both have a fascination about our discovery concerning the dark secret in this movie's dedication. Listeners, please follow Joe on Twitter @Joe_meets_world Chipotle, please give us a sponsorship. Notes- *Joe is the third male guest on this podcast, not the second. Duh, Danielle. *Captain Marvel is the DC comics character we were trying to think of. *Here is the promised photo of Joe as the UA Bee-

  • Episode 41- Rio

    19/08/2016 Duration: 43min

In honor of the 2016 Summer Olympics in Brazil, we watch the 2011 singing bird movie 'Rio!' Sam was an undead Fantine, Danielle is Olympics obsessed despite her minimal sports knowledge, Holly the dog dances the samba, and we're all very wary of birds that live indoors. Linda, girl you can do better than Tulio. Show Notes- *Danielle incorrectly says Dumas wrote 'Hunchback of Notre Dame,' it was the OTHER depressing 19th century French author, Victor Hugo. Who also wrote Les Miserables, which we discuss at length in this same episode. D'oh! *Motley Crue was the band Danielle was waiting to see at Bamboozle when watching Bruno Mars. Her statement about Bruno upstaging them definitely still stands. *Brendan Hansen is the Olympic swimmer whose name we forgot.

  • Episode 40- Finding Dory

    31/07/2016 Duration: 24min

Danielle and Jess swam over to catch the Pixar sequel we've been waiting years for, 'Finding Dory!' Nemo brings Jess luck and sibling bonding, Dory and Peter Gabriel bring Danielle to tears, and we both recently had adventures at Wizard World Philly, where we got our picture taken with STANLEY TUCCI!!! If you're lucky, we'll post that photo (even though Danielle looks like a doofus in it). Get off our rock, Gerald! Corrections Department note: Danielle said Marlin's voice was Albert Finney, but she meant Albert Brooks. Duh, Danielle.

  • Episode 39- Labyrinth

    30/06/2016 Duration: 26min

In honor of it's 30th anniversary this week, we watch the 1986 Jim Henson/George Lucas/David Bowie extravaganza 'The Labyrinth.' Danielle wants your vote for Goblin Queen, Sam lives for '80s cheesiness, Holly the dog is dipped in the Bog of Eternal Stench, and we all agree that Jareth was an excellent babysitter. Put on your glam mullet wig, throw glitter everywhere, and join us in watching this cult classic!

  • Episode 38- Flipper

    26/05/2016 Duration: 41min

Grab your drunk pelican, a ten-year supply of SpaghettiOs, and your favourite oversized Smashing Pumpkins t-shirt because we're watching the 1996 marine mammal comedy opus, 'Flipper.' Danielle tries to look cool while Elijah Wood is only a few feet away from her at SXSW, Sam pitches 'Eyes: The Movie,' and we both find high-pitched screams hilarious. Notes- *Sam mentions remembering that "Roll to Me" by Del Amitri is in 'Flipper.' This isn't the case BUT the song was used in previews for the film. *The "Ollie the Otter" song Danielle mentions is by a band called Formerly Known as Oedipusaurus Rex. Danielle knows nothing about this band and is pretty sure she only owns this song because someone put it on a mix CD for her in high school since she loves otters. *You know you want to see Danielle's infamous picture with Elijah Wood. Here it is:
